The Scarborough Flyer

In August 2008 the Railway Touring Company was going to run 5 trips from Crewe to Scarborough on consecutive Fridays, using 3 locos 6201 Princess Elizabeth, 60009 Union of South Africa & 71000 Duke of Gloucester. 71000 was an early casualty and the job fell to 60009 & 6201,

1st Aug disaster strikes 60009 on a previous railtour and needs Firebox Brick arch rebuilding, tour cancelled.

8th August 6201 Princess Elizabeth takes the lead and i photographed it both morning and evenning.

15th August 60009 Union of South Africa makes it's debut

22nd August 60009 Union of South Africa again, but by Huddersfield is running nearly 60 minutes late and i am unable to see the special

29th August 60009 Union of South Africa again, photos taken about 20 minutes late at Huddersfield, then disaster strikes not 10 minutes after passing Deighton, the airbrake fails at Ravensthorpe, blocking the Leeds line.
