| Hillhouse Shed was opened in 1849 by the LNWR as a 4 track dead end shed, rebuilt in 1882 as a 6 track dead end shed. The layout was altered in 1905 with 4 tracks passing through the shed and an adjacent wagon shop taken over for locomotives, also a new 65 foot turntable & coalstage with water tower were installed. In 1937 the LMS installed a multipitch roof included also were improvements to the coaling plant.
The depot was closed on January 2nd 1967 by B.R. and subsequently demolished, the yard remained for coal & railfreight until closure in the mid 80's.
